Mint (Mentha) is an herb that contains 15-20 plant species, including peppermint and spearmint. Mint grows at low temperatures and can undergo a wide range of environmental conditions. It is often used as spices, herbal teas, oils, food, flavor, ointment, and as tribal and traditional medicines.

  • Offer a range of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities
  • Can soothe upset stomach, indigestion, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Fun Tips: 

Mint is relatively easy to grow at home. Store mint in a reusable plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. 

Culinary uses: add to salads, fruit/fruit salad, or water to add a burst of fresh flavor! 

Recipe: Fresh Mint Tea

Ingredients: 

  • 2 cups water
  • 15 fresh mint leaves
  • 1-2 tsp of sugar or honey (optional)
  • 2 lemon slices (optional) 

Directions 

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat and add mint leaves. Steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on desired strength.
  3. Add sugar or honey, if using.
  4. Serve hot or if serving iced, fill glass with ice and pour tea over. Garnish with lemon slices.
