Chase Brexton's Advocacy work empowers and drives our mission

Chase Brexton was founded by a small group of volunteers in 1978. They were members of the Baltimore Gay Alliance, healthcare providers, and the Baltimore City Health Department, all working together to fund, establish, open, and staff a small clinic for gay men who were being denied access to essential, life-saving health care. This was achieved with initial funding of only $10,000 from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and became a clinic on the frontlines of the global pandemic of HIV/AIDS.

This spirit of creating exactly what is needed to respond to the unique needs of underserved patients still drives the mission of Chase Brexton today.

Today, Chase Brexton Health Care’s department of Advocacy and Education continues to lead the fight for accessible healthcare through our work at the community, state, and national levels.

Public Policy and Community Engagement

The department for Advocacy and Education works with lawmakers, influencers, and the public at large to help create the policies and cultural shifts that are necessary to end health disparities for Chase Brexton Health Care’s patients and the communities we serve.

Our experts regularly serve as the voice for our patients in national, regional, and local community task forces dedicated to advancing public health and wellness.

Created in 2016, National Honor Our LGBT Elders Day is a nationally recognized day to honor and thank those who came before us for creating the path and leading the way. Because of their fight, we are free to live our best lives. As part of the commemoration, we have created a host of tools to enable community members across the country to thank our elders for their dedication to equality, justice and tolerance.
