Breast Cancer and Nutrition
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the CDC, breast cancer is the second leading type of cancer among females. Although more rare, breast cancer can happen in men at about every 1 out of 100 cases.
Spices and Herbs that Heal: Ginger
Ginger is an herb in the same plant family as turmeric and cardamom. Its rhizome or root is the main portion of ginger that is consumed. Over 100 compounds have been isolated from ginger. Gingerol and shogaols are best known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Rosemary is an herb that’s a member of the mint family. Rosmarinic acid, carnosic acid, and rosemary essential oil are the most notable compounds studied in this plant. Rosemary is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds which are also used to improve the shelf life of foods.
