2022 Champions of Care

2022 Champions of Care Video

Care is revolutionary. Without care, we suffer. We struggle. We endure burnout and depression. With care, we revive, reignite, focus, and soar.

This Black History Month, we asked you to tell us about your Black colleagues who embody care.  We are thrilled to share the recognitions we received for Chase Brexton's Black History Month 2022: Champions of Care.

Pharmacy Senior Technician

Recognized by: Vandelle Hampton, Manager, Pharmacy, MVC

I am pleased to nominate Tiffany Armstead as a “Champion of Care.” I have worked with Tiffany for 5 years and continue to be impressed with her ongoing commitment and dedication to the pharmacy team. Tiffany puts forth extraordinary efforts to ensure the staff meet both departmental and organizational goals. She constantly shares her views and ideas on how we can improve our current processes. One of her ideas led to a more efficient workflow at our pharmacy pick-up counter. For these reasons, I would like to nominate Tiffany Armstead.

Medical Assistant, GBC

Recognized by: Jayanti Dasgupta, Staff Physician, CC/GBC

Ashley models care for both colleagues and patients on a daily basis. She is an empathetic and responsive listener to her friends and colleagues, and is thoughtful but unassuming in gestures of support. For example, I have been on the receiving end of her kindness myself, sometimes finding sweet treats on my desk during both my pregnancies, simply because she knew they would brighten a difficult day or week. With patients, she is compassionate but firm in setting appropriate boundaries, helping both patients get the care they need and the clinical team move through sessions efficiently to allow for time for important self-care rituals like lunch. Thank you for everything you do, Ashley!

Director of Nursing, All Centers

Recognized by: Vicki Helmick, Facilities, All Centers

Kim has handled the COVID19 pandemic experience with grace and quality.  She exemplifies what every person should strive to be in today's world.  Her knowledge, her caring, her ambitions and her patience far exceed anyone else that I have worked with at CBHC during the pandemic.

Child and Adolescent Manager, BH, All Centers

Recognized by: Rachael Snyder, Behavioral Health Therapist, MVC

Aleisha always finds a way to make herself available to discuss a case I’m having some difficulty with and helps me consider different perspectives. She is a very valuable part of our behavioral health team and community of Chase Brexton as a whole.

Program Administrator, Center for LGBTQ Health Equity

Recognized by: Alicia Gabriel, Marketing

Daurice’s passion, empathy, and insight are true gifts that she gives without hesitation to our patients, our organization, and each of us. Working with Daurice, you get the sense that everyday is a new opportunity and every interaction is meaningful to her. Her attention to our patients’ needs is inspiring. Her dedication to improving what can be improved and celebrating that which should be celebrated has reminded me time and again that the impact a single person can have on our world is boundless. Daurice brings a level of care to her everyday work that I can only aspire to achieve. I’m grateful to know and work with her.

Patient Service Rep, MVC

Recognized by: Andrea Speedie, Staff Physician, MVC

Mrs. House is caring and calm in the face of all the barriers to care our patients present with. She is typically the first person to receive the bundle of frustration, fatigue and stress that patients bring to her due to their own illness, fear of not receiving the care they need and other Chase Brexton-imposed layers of challenges. She is always patient, listens carefully and does her best to help while appropriately using the assistance of MAs and providers. I rely on her and her judgement everyday and am thankful that she serves as the face of our organization to my patients.

Behavioral Health Therapist, GBC

Recognized by: Qwandra Jones, Patient Service Rep, and Michael McGraw, Staff Therapist, GBC

Lisa has been exemplary in modeling care during these pandemic times. Since it's start, she has been amenable to changes that we've had to make in our work, and has never been demanding in how we learn. She has  given us the space to work to our strengths, and has also empowered us to work in ways that serve not only our patients well, but ourselves. She has been consistent in noting that we take time for ourselves to recharge so that we are able to do the work. And she continues to add enjoyment and laughter to the work we do, allowing time to rest and smile. She knows that we shine when we are our best selves, and she strives to be her best self daily. Thank you Lisa for being the Black woman that you are, and for being a Champion of Care.

Sr. Director, Operations, MVC

Recognized by: Avery Brow, Senior Operations Project Analyst, MVC

Marlene remains one of the most compassionate, caring individuals I have ever worked with in healthcare. Not only does she want the best for the patients we see, but she inspires the same from her colleagues. She is never flustered, always is professional, and epitomizes the values of Chase Brexton, each and every day.

Peer Counselor, Substance Use, MVC

Recognized by: Janine Michaelson, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, MVC, RC

"Peer Counselor" doesn't come close to describing all the roles that Kendall fills. She is an expert at helping patients find outside resources such as alcohol rehabs and detox programs.  She walks them through the steps required to schedule intakes and start dates. She puts out fires for patients in crisis throughout the building.   She provides support to clinicians with complicated cases.  She goes wherever she is needed and brings a lifetime of expertise and caring, providing transparency to the patients she serves to show that wellness and recovery can exist even when life continuously rears its sometime ugly head.

Substance Use Counselor, GBC

Rolesia has been on the front lines of addiction treatment to diverse populations for over 20 years; 6 years strong at Chase Brexton. She has been a wealth of knowledge in our clinic. Often providing consultation on challenging cases, as well as checking in on team members’ general wellness. Each day she embodies compassionate care through her advocacy and attentiveness to her patients. During a time of high racial tensions in our community, Rolesia boldly challenged disparities within our own agency. The ideas generated from her voice have shaped the way I and others practice. Through her words you feel her passion, loyalty, and care for her craft and all members of the Chase Brexton community. So, without hesitation, I gratefully nominate Rolesia Rogers as a Champion of Care.  - David Idemudia

Jocelyn supports all Chase Brexton's clinical teams by regularly providing information about Ryan White services available and ways in which we can assist our patients with access to care.

Natalie demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to providing exceptional care to our patients here at Chase Brexton. She goes over and beyond to ensure all of their needs are met. We have witnessed Natalie making countless phone calls on behalf of the patients. She is always determined to resolve their issue, and if she can’t, she will find someone who can. Our pharmacy manager recently received a phone call from a patient expressing their gratitude for the time Natalie took to help them with their problem.  The quality of care that Natalie provides to our patients here at Chase Brexton is top-notch, and for that reason, we nominate Natalie as a “Champion of Care.”

Charlene has been dedicated to our patients and mission of the organization throughout her journey at Chase. She works tremendously hard in our prior authorization department to ensure patients have the medications they need to improve their health and well-being. She alleviates the burden of additional paperwork for our providers and assists patients in navigating an often times challenging healthcare system. Charlene is valued and we appreciate all that she does to advanced pharmacy practices!
