(11/22/22) From Sam McClure, Executive Director, The Center for LGBTQ Health Equity:
Our community woke up Sunday morning to the horrible news of another hate crime perpetrated against LGBT individuals, this time at the Club Q nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Like many across the nation, our Center for LGBTQ Health Equity grieves for the five lives lost in this terrible attack, and sends wishes for speedy recoveries to the nineteen others injured in the incident. We honor the actions of Richard Fierro and other club patrons who disarmed and restrained the gunman before more lives were lost.
As we did six years ago after the Pulse nightclub shooting, as we do after every one of the far, far too many attacks against the LGBT community, we now grapple with another senseless loss of life and confront the fear that this could happen at any time, to any of us.
In this time, our Center’s efforts turn to our local community, and the role we can play in assisting others through these processes of grief and fear. Our behavioral health staff is available for counseling and support, and our Center has resources available to help anyone who is struggling in the wake of this tragedy.
We are here with you and for you. If you need assistance, please call 410-837-2050 ext 1090 or visit www.chasebrexton.org/LGBTQ.
