Chase Brexton Health Care’s POWER Project will expand its HIV prevention services in the Baltimore area with the launch of POWER Nursing, a new program with connections to Chase Brexton’s existing HIV outreach efforts and sexual health care.
POWER Nursing builds off of the successes of Chase Brexton’s POWER Project and POWER Clinic, the community health center’s HIV outreach, testing, treatment and education programs. In conjunction with Chase Brexton’s Sexual Health Clinic, established earlier this year, POWER Nursing will expand these programs across the Baltimore metro area.
“The need for effective HIV prevention outreach and treatment remains constant and urgent,” said Shanna Dell, Program Manager for POWER Nursing and the Sexual Health Clinic. “POWER Nursing will serve as a bridge across our organization for these services, especially pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, a vital tool in ending the HIV epidemic.”
POWER Nursing was made possible thanks to a two-year, $250,000 grant from Gilead Sciences, Inc., in support of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy’s goals to End the HIV Epidemic, as well as Maryland’s Integrated HIV Plan.
The program will include an array of HIV prevention support including HIV counseling, testing, and referral; screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections; health education and risk reduction counseling, and PrEP/nPEP navigation.
