If your child isn't sick, do you really need to come see us?
Yes! Growing up is a lot of work. And, so is parenting. Chase Brexton is here to help.
Regular well-child visits are important for your child AND for you. During these visits we can make sure your child is growing well and can help you with any issues you might be having with your child. These regular visits will do a lot for you and your child. Here's why:
- Prevention. Your child gets scheduled immunizations to prevent illness. You also can ask your pediatrician about nutrition and safety in the home and at school.
- Tracking growth and development. See how much your child has grown in the time since your last visit, and talk with your doctor about your child's development. You can discuss your child's milestones, social behaviors and learning.
- Raising concerns. Make a list of topics you want to talk about with your child's pediatrician such as development, behavior, sleep, eating or getting along with other family members. Bring your top three to five questions or concerns with you to talk with your pediatrician at the start of the visit.
- You have a team. Regular visits help you, your child, and your health care team get closer. Your child's health care team will be better at helping you make sure your child's physical, mental and social health are developing well!
At every age and stage of your child's growth, you will want to bring your child in for an appointment at different times. Here is how we generally schedule appointments, by age.
During a baby's first year, you'll bring your baby in for medical well-child visits a lot more often than later in their life. You'll make appointments for them to be seen at the ages of:
- 3-5 days
- 1 month
- 2 months
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months
Then, when your child turns one year old and through their third birthday, you'll make appointments for them to be seen at the ages of:
- 15 months
- 1 1/2 years
- 2 years
- 2 1/2 years
- 3 years
Starting at the age of four and until your child is 21, they should have a well-child visit every year.
