The Institute for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion can be found educating, training, and podcasting in the community!

In just over two years, The Institute for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) has diligently worked to further our purpose of “disrupt[ing] the behaviors, beliefs, and policies that sustain systemic inequities, structural racism, and other discriminatory practices.” Removing long-standing barriers and working toward equitable health care, particularly for marginalized individuals, continues to be the crux of our work as it has been behind every strategic initiative undertaken in 2023 and will continue to inform the work we do in 2024.

With the generous support of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, The Institute for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) at Chase Brexton organized EDI training courses throughout 2023 for the Chase Brexton Glen Burnie Team. 

57 staff members, both clinical and nonclinical participated.

On December 13th, 2023, Aya Shuman, Executive Director of our Institute for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion and Sam McClure, Executive Director of The Center for LGBTQ Health Equity, presented a holistic, informative, and engaging training to the Maryland LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Foundation Boards. This training included concepts such as intersectionality, cultural humility, implicit bias, microaggressions, boundary-setting and more, with introspective reflection and discussion.

Chase Brexton Health Care was recognized with the “Equity of Care” Award from Renaye James Healthcare Advisors, which was presented to the organizations that are noteworthy leaders and examples of equitable care. Honorees demonstrate a high level of success in reducing health care disparities and promote diversity in leadership and staff within their organization.
